No Challenge November

Welcome to the Month of Gratitude

We are well into November and have much to be thankful for.  I love having a monthly enrichment (read:Instagram Challenge 😉 to focus on to give my mind a safe and happy place to drift when needed, but every once and a while, it’s nice to relax and let each day happen as it will.

PC-one-day-at-a-time-1

Instead of having a monthly challenge this month, I wanted to focus on reflection and just let some new ideas settle in without too much force.  While reading, I came across a story I hadn’t heard in a while.  Maybe you’ve already heard it.  Are you familiar with the shortest poem in the english language?  Just in case, I’ll share it with you:

“Me, we.”

Muhammed Ali recited this poem to the Harvard Class of 1975.  His emphasis was on the community that it takes for a person to achieve ultimate growth.  We are all connected and affect each other in one way or another.  Individually we serve no purpose.  We need community for any of our actions to have meaning.  We need support to make each other whole.  adidas-image-campaign-muhammad-ali-small-99963

Ali has given great lectures and inspired many in his life.  The simplicity of those two words connect us all.  We are all who we are because of how we receive those around us.

With that in mind, I find myself filled with gratitude for everyone in my life.  I cannot believe the amazing people I have encountered.  Some that have been mainstays that have certainly shaped my beliefs and practices.  There have been many who I’ve met in passing that have impacted decisions I’ve made.  There have been some of whom I’d wished to stay that have gone and some who are here that I hope never leave.

Thinking of those who are part of my “we” reminds me that I am also part of their “we”.  There is a reason we’ve connected.  If you’ve been waiting for a reason to take better care of yourself, or if you’ve been selflessly putting others needs before your own, remember that you are the “we” of so many others.  “We” want you to live your best life.  “We” want you to be full of energy, have a clear mind, have a healthy heart, and confidence that’s contagious.  “We” are so closely connected.  L’et’s look to each other for support, encouragement and celebration in success.

Let’s Connect

(Anyone have one of these growing up?)

I’d love to get to know more about “we”.  I have a fun survey that I’d love to have as many of you as possible complete.  I’ll post the questions below.  In my next blog post, I’ll answer them too.  If you’re interested in participating, you answer the questions as well.  If you’d like to share your answer with all of us, post your survey on our Facebook page.  A simple answer is fine, but the more you elaborate, the more interesting (in my opinion).  Not only will it allow me to be more aware of your interests, it will help me provide you with more valuable content in the future. If you don’t want to share your answers publicly but are willing to share with me, send them to me in a private message.  I am going to create a chart with the answers (leaving those who wish to remain anonymous unnamed).  Call it juvenile if you must, but I think it’s fun 🙂

The Survey:

  1. What is your age?
  2. Do you drink coffee? If yes, what do you put in it?
  3. Do you follow specific dietary guidelines (such as vegan, paleo, vegetarian, gluten free, etc)?  If so, which one(s)?
  4. What is your favorite form of exercise?
  5. What is your favorite inspirational quote? Please tell!
  6. What movie have you seen more times than any other movie?
  7. What is your favorite place to travel to?
  8. Would you rather live near the beach, mountains or middle of the city?
  9. What is your favorite sitcom of all time?
  10. What is the last thing you ate?
  11. Where do you most often shop for clothing?
  12. Can you play an instrument?
  13. Do you prefer a phone call or text message?
  14. Did you play a sport in high school or college?
  15. If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?

I am really looking forward to getting to know a little more about you.  If there is a question you don’t feel comfortable answering, skip it.  Want to share something that isn’t included? Add it 🙂 Make it your own.

Such a fun quiz! Here are my answers:

    1. What is your age? 35

    2. Do you drink coffee? If yes, what do you put in it? Yes, lots of it. Mainly cold brew with a little milk; but occasionally a black coffee with a pinch of stevia.

    3. Do you follow specific dietary guidelines (such as vegan, paleo, vegetarian, gluten free, etc)? If so, which one(s)? Nope. I try to follow the Strong Calm Sexy plan, but if I am being honest, I need to refocus my efforts a little more closely on that one, too. ☺

    4. What is your favorite form of exercise? Anything that offers me short challenges to conquer and keep my mind refocusing throughout — things like spinning, weights and yoga.

    5. What is your favorite inspirational quote? Please tell! There are two that have very different meanings in my life right now: (1) Nothing good has ever come from a comfort zone; and (2) Always listen to your heart. Even though it’s on your left side, it’s always right.

    6. What movie have you seen more times than any other movie? Just Go With It or Sweet Home Alabama

    7. What is your favorite place to travel to? Anguilla, British West Indies, Caribbean

    8. Would you rather live near the beach, mountains or middle of the city? Without a shadow of a doubt, the beach. (another favorite quote: you can shake the sand from your shoes, but it never leaves the soul).

    9. What is your favorite sitcom of all time? How I Met Your Mother

    10. What is the last thing you ate? Grilled Chicken, Baked Mixed-Color Carrots, Green Beans and a Sweet Potato

    11. Where do you most often shop for clothing? Nordstrom

    12. Can you play an instrument? I have played an instrument, but I cannot play an instrument. Trust me.

    13. Do you prefer a phone call or text message? I much prefer face-to-face conversations; but if I had to choose, I’d pick a phone call.

    14. Did you play a sport in high school or college? Soccer, Basketball and Softball in High School; Soccer in college.

    15. If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be? The “in progress” change I am making right now — to find a way to put life first, and to spend more time focusing on the things that matter most — my family, my friends and myself. Also, see # 7 above….move to Anguilla full time. ☺

What is your favorite inspirational quote? Please tell! Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. -Dr. Seuss

    The Survey:

    What is your age? 49

Do you drink coffee? If yes, what do you put in it? Not too often, but when I do it has to have something sweet in it like non-fat french vanilla creamer. Or I will get a non-fat white chocolate mocha from Starbucks.

Do you follow specific dietary guidelines (such as vegan, paleo, vegetarian, gluten free, etc)? If so, which one(s)? nope, but I should.

What is your favorite form of exercise? Tennis and I enjoy lifting weights too.

What is your favorite inspirational quote? Please tell! “If it’s meant to be it’s up to me”

What movie have you seen more times than any other movie? Oh geez, IDK.

What is your favorite place to travel to? I love visiting family in NC, but any trip to a warm beach makes me happy.

Would you rather live near the beach, mountains or middle of the city? That’s tough, as I get wiser, not older, but wiser, I am leaning more towards the mountains, but the beach is still my top choice.

What is your favorite sitcom of all time? Probably Friends.

What is the last thing you ate? Really, I should have taken this survey another day. Chicken wings.

Where do you most often shop for clothing? Omar’s Tent Outlet… Macy’s …

Can you play an instrument? I wish. I had to when I was in elementary school so I played the oboe and the clarinet…I broke too many reeds so my parents decided I was done. Whoo Hoo.

Do you prefer a phone call or text message? Depends on my mood…probably a text these days. 🙂

Did you play a sport in high school or college? Yes. I played tennis and softball and spent some time as a cheerleader in HS. College, my sport was uh, socializing, and some co-ed football.

If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be? I would actually try to focus on being really good at something as opposed to trying to do everything. I love my life though like many of us struggle at times….no matter how bad I think it is, it’s better than the alternative, that’s for sure.
