Adversity Face-off

We’ve all faced adversity in our lives at one point or another.  Some of us may be struggling with something right now.  I’ve faced my share of challenges, and while some things I’ve gone through may seem like a walk in the park compared to the depth of worry and pain that others have gone through, many wouldn’t prefer the hand of cards I was dealt over theirs.  For the sake of my point, let’s just even the playing field and assign all adversity the same catastrophe level  and generalize all pain as equal.


There are days when I’d like to shake the hand of adversity and say “Thank you for your valuable lesson.  I am now wiser, stronger and a more well-rounded individual.  You are now dismissed, buh-bye.”  Then, there are days when I’d like to slap adversity silly and say “Uhhhh, listen up beotch, I already knew that!  You taught me that lesson like 72 times.  Go away before I choke you out!”  Ah, yes.  Those are the days that we find out what we are truly made of.  A problem solved once is a lesson learned, but solving the same problem over and over again…that’s a ginormous red flag that something needs to change.

I don’t have all of the answers, although at times, I like to pretend like I do.  I don’t know what you’re going through right now and I probably can’t fix it for you, but I can tell you that taking action in the areas you can control can give you a sense of security, optimism, determination and direction.  Take those steps of action toward healing, helping, and overcoming your obstacle, but always remember that in some areas of your life, the ball is always in your court.   What you eat and how you move are things that you get to control.  Fitness and food are not just tools to help you look your best.  Eating nurturing meals and challenging your body is uplifting and empowering.  The most rewarding thing about my job is when a client tells me that they feel stronger mentally.  Every time you complete a workout, eat a healthy meal, walk instead of drive, drink water instead of pop: you’ve succeeded.  This is an area in your life where short term successes can happen numerous times every day.  All of those successes add up to amazing results internally and externally.  When you feel good, it shows.  You’re inspiring others too.  When you pack a healthy lunch, people are going to want to know what’s in it, then they’re going to want to pack a healthy lunch.  When you’re walking taller and moving with more fluidity, people will want to know what you’re doing…tell them 🙂 Share your successes with others and let’s all feel good together!



Did you forget we were talking about adversity for a minute?  I’m not saying that exercise and healthy eating will eliminate all challenges you face, but poor nutrition and a sedentary lifestyle will just add a whole new layer (literally…a layer of excess body mass).  Additionally, lifting yourself up with proper self-care can be your daily reminder that you are gong to get through this.  You are more than your problems.  You have what it takes to outlast the challenge.  Then, when it passes, you are going to feel amazing, look fabulous, be wiser, and just altogether unstoppable!
